Conscious Sedation Dentistry
Conscious sedation dentistry is recommended for patients who have dental phobia. These patients choose not to remember anything from their medication. It is beneficial for those who needs to dental surgeries but do not want to recollect what has been done during the process. Basically, for the oral administered sedation, it is done by making the patient take a pill one hour prior to the appointment to the dentist. Of course, by the time the patient arrives at the clinic, he or she will be very drowsy. During this state, the patient is awake and is able to answer all the questions posed by the dentist but he or she is in a very relaxed state. To aid relaxation, headphones are given to the patient. It is contrasted to general anesthesia since in the latter; the person will be completely unconscious. Throughout the procedure, the pulse oximeter is used to monitor the vital signs.
